Symphony Silicon Valley
Unveils Seventh Season

FOR ITS 2008–09 season, Symphony Silicon Valley has commissioned a brand-new work for noted pianist Jon Nakamatsu. The concerto, by David Amram, will be performed Jan. 15–18 at the California Theatre. Paul Polivnick will conduct.

Other highlights of the newly announced season include Jon Kimura Parker performing Shostakovich's First Piano Concerto and Jonas Nordwall warming up the California Theatre's organ for Guilmant's first Organ Symphony.


Concert 1: Dances at an Opening

With guest conductor Leslie Dunner. Dance works by Ginastera, Duke Ellington and Prokofiev. Sept. 27–28, 2008.


Concert 2: Mendelssohn and Beethoven

George Cleve conducts Beethoven's Symphony no. 1, Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E Minor (with soloist Christina Mok) and Debussy's La Mer. Oct. 16–19, 2008.


Concert 3: Beyond the Score: Tchaikovsky's Fourth

With conductor Paul Polivnick. Dec. 6–7, 2008.


Concert 4: A Nakamatsu Premiere

Polivnick conducts. The program also includes Haydn's Symphony no. 95 and Respighi's Feste romane. Jan. 15–18, 2009.


Concert 5: The Organ and the Great C.

Paul Haas conducts. Jonas Nordwall guest solos on the theater organ. With additional pieces by Barber and Schubert. March 14–15, 2009.


Concert 6: Brahms and Dvorák

Cleve conducts Berlioz's Le carnaval romain, Brahms' Violin Concerto in D Major and Dvorak's Symphony no. 9 (From the New World). The guest soloist is violinist Ju-Young Baek. March 26–29, 2009.


Concert 7: Spring Symphonies

Gregory Vajda conducts; pianist Jon Kimura Parker solos. The program features Beethoven's Symphony no. 4 and two works by Shostakovich. May 7–10, 2009.


Concert 8: Lord Nelson Mass

Jane Glover conducts Prokofiev's Symphony no. 1, Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings and Haydn's Lord Nelson Mass. June 6–7, 2009.
