Best of the Silicon Suburbs

public art
Rocket Science?: No, just an industrial-park water tower masquerading as public art in Silicon Valley.

UNITED NOT BY GEOGRAPHY BUT rather by similar emphases on high-tech campuses, retail outlets and comfortable, relatively affordable housing, Milpitas, Sunnyvale and Santa Clara provide ample proof that "suburb" is not an epithet synonymous with mayo on Wonder bread. These once-sleepy bedroom burgs woke up and smelled the Starbucks some time ago, blossoming into well-run, livable communities that pride themselves on their schools, diversity and cultural opportunities.
