Logo-A-Go-Go

Frequently Asked Questions about Metro Newspapers' Logo-a-go-go program

How is it that you can offer such low prices on advertising in some of the Bay Area's best read weekly newspapers?

Well, by simplifying the billing, the production and the sales costs, we save a lot of labor costs (and this is an expensive area, as you well know). So we can pass those savings on to you.

Can your publications really make money at this rate?

We think so. But really, we hope that after a six months to a year of advertising, some advertisers will see how well it works and buy larger ads. We take a long term view of business development, in the meantime, you get a great deal.

Will an ad this small work for me?

Repetitive advertising is the most effective way to brand your trade name into a consumer's consciousness. Keeping your logo in front of the public helps a buyer think of you when it comes time to make a purchase decision. Would you like a Coke with that?

Shouldn't I change my ad every week?

Consistency is important. Think of your ad the same way as a yellow page ad, your business card or the sign in front of your business. A consistent way to remind the public that you're there to serve them, along with essential contact information, like your phone number and hours.

Why is there a word limit?

This low cost program coincides with an effort to reduce clutter and clean up advertising in our newspapers. Simple, clean, attractive ads draw readers and contribute to a more inviting publication overall. So it helps to create a better product at the same time it builds your business.

What counts as a word?

Any abbreviation, price, date, telephone number, address number or abbreviated day-time pair (i.e. "M-F 5:30-10") counts as one word. Spelled out days of the week count as one word. An address like "300 Market St." counts as 3 words. A URL like www.yahoo.com counts as one word.

What if I need extra words?

They're $5 for each additional word in Metro, $3 in Metro's other newspapers.

What if I need to change my ad after the first run?

No problem. It's $49.50 in Metro, $29.50 in our other publications. That covers the cost of production, a sales visit, and a proof.

Can I buy more than one ad and combine them to create a larger size?

Yes--any Metro Newspapers standard size is fine.

Can I run my ad in any combination of Metro newspapers?

Yes, Logo-a-go-go programs are available for $29.50 per week at Oakland's Urbanview, the North Bay Bohemian and Metro Santa Cruz. The Metro Silicon Valley rate is $49.50.

What if I don't have--or don't want to use--my credit card?

You can prepay the 26-week agreement, $1287. ($767 for Metro's other newspapers.)

Can I use an airline mileage card and apply the miles towards my next vacation?

Great idea!
