UV: What were you thinking when you made this cover piece?
KK: The fragility of young Black life.

UV: If you were stuck on a desert island what three things could you not live without?
KK: I would not get stuck on a desert island. However, if I found myself in a sleepy, Caribbean fishing village for an extended period, I would be blessed to have in my company my family, an interesting place to explore, and of course a creative spirit.

UV: What kind of music do you like?
KK: I like music that moves me, my body, my emotions, my politics.

UV: Who are three other Bay Area artists that inspire you?
KK: The entire art class at Willard Middle School in Berkeley (especially young Michael), Cauleen Smith, my man Hugo the Black Smith.

UV: How does your art relate to your environment?
KK: My artwork is the fruit of the environment tree.
