UV: What drives you to make art?
JH: I am driven to make images by a force greater than myself, or by a greater part of myself. Basically, it is part of my job on this planet in this moment, and the best thing for me to do is get out of the way and let the images come right on through. The rest will be revealed as I reveal more of myself to the people in my life as well as my with work. I am forever looking forward to what will happen next as a part of me gets to watch the show just like everybody else does.

UV: 1172 is a very popular number. Why choose 114 to include in your piece?
JH: The boys introduce themselves to me as they arrive just as you or I would when crashing a party, and I am simply there to make sure we get their names right.

UV: Monkeys... The missing link?
JH: The Monkeys' boldness, honesty, and compassion link us to a piece of ourselves. Each one that is commissioned turns out to be a reflection of the individual owner at the moment of creation of the piece.

UV: Do you have any reoccurring nightmares or debilitating phobias?
JH: Murder dreams. Whenever I feel like I have jumped an electron level in my understanding [of the nature of truth, myself, or my surroundings] the dreams increase in intensity and regularity. I shake it off the best that I can, try not to take it personally, and let the feelings seep into my dealings with worlds outside of my own. This and laugh at myself and the uncanny timing and sense of humor of the universe is really all I can do.

UV: You have a show opening at Badlands in the Mission this Friday the 16th. Will you bring the monkeys?
JH: The Blue Balled Monkeys are always with me as a spiritual force and will provide moral support for this show from home. "Voices in my Head" will debut "The Wrecking Crew" and feature "The Next Evolution," which have made the leap off of the wall to the ground below, so be sure to lock your refrigerator doors.
