UV: Dude, is that your bike?
JB: Yes, my girlfriend gave it to me. She picked up in a thrift store back east for $2.

UV: What led you from doing more obviously conceptual/performance work to painting with oil on canvas?
JB: The paintings were born out of that earlier work, where certain ideas seemed to gravitate towards painting. Conceptual elements are inherent in what I am doing now in a much more specific and subtle way, while its performative aspects have been directed towards the process of thinking and choosing.

UV: How do you title these paintings?
JB: I don't really title them per se, I classify them according to established categories.

UV: How do the objects you choose to paint document your living in a certain time and place, like, in Oakland, Califonia USA in the 21st century?
JB: If I lived in a different time and place, I am certain that the objects would be somewhat different--both physically and conceptually.

UV: What's your alltime favorite rock & roll record?
JB: Felony -"The Fanatic."
