Its popular 420-foot Superpipe is open daily, offering skiers and riders smooth transitions to 18-foot walls. The resort is also gearing up to introduce a new DC sponsored terrain park soon.

The new DC park will be set-up off of the Vista Express lift on The Straits, and will include large freestyle features. Snow features will also be included, with the park set-up concept showcasing a combination of large urban-style features and other unique innovative designs. The DC park is one of Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort's six terrain parks which vary in size and contain small, medium and large terrain features.

Northstar Resort's new base area village is home to Tahoe's best après ski scene with 35 shops, restaurants and bars, a 9,000 square foot skating rink and the venue for many special events including TGI Thursday dining specials every Thursday evening 5-8pm during the winter season.

Alpine Meadows Ski Resort

Located in the Tahoe National Forest on Lake Tahoe's North Shore with more than 2000 acres of varied Tahoe terrain, 14 lifts and more than 100 runs. The summit is 8,637 feet high, with snow base at 6,835. Alpine Meadows has six bowls, steep chutes and gentle glades. Black diamonds mark the 35 percent of the trails reserved for advanced and expert skiiers.

Boreal Mountain Resort

On the California side of Tahoe, Boreal is a smaller, kid-friendly ski resort with 41 trails, 380 acres of skiable slopes and a 500 foot (152 m) vertical drop with peaks at 7,700 feet (2,347 m). The longest run is a mile long. Slopes are 30 percent beginner, 55 percent intermediate and 15 percent advanced.

Diamond Peak

With one of Lake Tahoe's steepest vertical drops, 1,840 feet, Diamond Peak Ski Resort has 655 skiable acres and runs as long as 2.5 miles. Terrain includes 30 runs, open glades and tree skiing.

Dodge Ridge Ski Resort

With a vertical drop of 1,600 feet, a base elevation of 6,600 feet and a 8,200- foot summit, the half-century old Dodge Ridge Ski Resort offers 60 trails spread over 815 acres served by 12 lifts. The longest run is two miles.

Donner Ski Ranch

With 435 skiable located high atop historic Donner Summit and a vertical drop of 750 feet, Donner Ski Ranch became a ski area in 1937. The longest run is 1.2 miles, and 25 percent of the trails are advanced. Snowboarding is permitted on all trails.

Heavenly Lake Tahoe Ski Resort

Heavenly's captivating scenery and expansive network of lifts, terrain, trails and snowmaking makes Heavenly Valley one of Tahoe's top skiing destinations. The region's largest mountain resort, its 4,800 skiable acres span two states (California and Nevada). Heavenly also has the highest elevation and longest vertical drop. Homewood Mountain Resort

Homewood rises up a vertical of 1,650 feet to a summit of almost 8,000 feet, high ablove Lake Tahoe's shores. Of the 100 runs, 85 percent are advanced and intermediate. Homewood's longest run is 2 miles.

Kirkwood

Kirkwood is one of Lake Tahoe's leading ski areas, with a base elevation of 7,800 feet (2,377 meters) a top elevatio at a breathtaking 9,800 feet (2,987 meters) and a vertical rise of 2,000 feet (609 meters).Its expansive 2,300 acres (930 hectares) encompasses more than 65 trails, the longest of which is 2.5 miles.

Mt. Rose Ski Area

Tahoe's highest snow base sits 8,260 feet high with panoramic views of Lake Tahoe and across the state of Nevada. Mt. Rose Ski Area's expansive 2,300 acres (930 hectares) encompass 60 trails spread over 1,600 acres, with two lifts and a 1,800 foot vertical drop.

Soda Springs

Built in 1931 as one of America's original ski resorts, Soda Springs is today a cost-conscious alternative to Lake Tahoe's mega-resorts. The vertical drop is modest, and Soda Springs is popular with beginners and families.

Squaw Valley's 4000 plus acres are built upon six pristine Lake Tahoe mountain peaks ranging in elevation from 7550 to 9050, feet with a vertical rise of 2850 feet, making it one of California's most expansive ski resorts. Squaw Valley USA is located on Highway 89 in Olympic Valley, California between Tahoe City and Truckee.

Sugar Bowl Ski Resort

Sugar Bowl Ski Resort in Norden, a three- hour drive from San Francisco, is a serious ski resort with 78 trails spread over 1,500 acres. The hig mark is 8383 feet with snow line at 6883 feet and a 1500 foot vertical drop. The longest run is three miles. Sugar Bowl has ample parking.
