Cuban-born, Spanish-raised, L.A.-based artist Antonio Mendoza began this site as part of an effort to get his art on-line and in the process displays not only a deliciously sick sense of humor but prodigious Photoshop and HTML abilities. The was one of the early sites to make extensive use of Netscape 1.1 capabilities and still one of the most elaborate. One of the most entertaining, too, especially amidst the current glut of professionally produced yet bone-dry corporate sites with pointless push-pull animations and bland background gifs aplenty. His "Digital Home of the Mass Murdering Serial Killer" ("They tried it, they liked it, they did it again!") may not be for the prim or squeamish among the on-line crowd and that's fine. But Antonio's HTML pyrotechnics and wiseacre prose (he's got the wit of a crime-beat lifer on a big city daily) make for a cheerful act of subversion on the increasingly homogeneous web. (JV)
