Sumo Information Page

Question: When the head judge says, "mizu-iri niban-go tori-naoshi," he is referring to A) the U.S.-Japan trade imbalance, B) the giant lizard crushing Tokyo's main power plant, or C) his call to start the Sumo wrestling match over again. Answer: C. If you didn't guess, then maybe you should bounce over to the Sumo Information Page, where you can learn everything from the basic rules guiding the ritual combat of very large men to the more arcane regulations (wrestlers from the same "heya," or stable," don't wrestle each other, a stipulation intended to make it more difficult to fix a bout). Of course, there are rather vivid pictures of these mighty warriors, flesh flapping, sweat spraying--almost as collectible as trading cards. You'll also find extensive schedules of all the big "basho" matches so you can tune in later for the blow-by-blow results. (JD)
