[whitespace] San Jose City Council, District 6

Mommy Dearest

[March 3, 2000, 5:15pm]    Most know Kris Cunningham, District 6 (Willow Glen and Rose Garden) city council candidate, as a neighborhood crusader, committed educator and every PTA president's dream. But while sifting through the skeletons in Cunningham's closet would probably turn up little more than an overdue library fine--paid off a long time ago--her mother, Eileen Kelly , appears to be an entirely different breed of aggressive political player.

"I have to watch her," Cunningham confesses. "She's been putting [campaign] signs on people's homes before asking."

The candidate promises that she has since set her mom straight.

Meanwhile, people in District 6 candidate Ken Yeager's camp are having trouble keeping their signs from going missing. Someone even ripped off the lawn sign from Yeager's own yard.

"I was out late at an event one night," Yeager says, "woke up the next morning and it was gone."

Yeager backers have no plans as of yet to start trailing Cunningham's dear old mom.
