If anyone thinks the conversation about gender, gender fluidity, and gender’s relation to identity is something new, The Bard was tackling this stuff on the stage way back in the 17th century. Los Altos Stage Company brings us Kwame Kwei-Armah and Shaina Taub’s modern take on Shakespeare’s classic, 12th night, with a jazz score featuring original songs by Taub. It’s a hilarious whirlwind as Viola, pretending to be a man named Cesario, falls head over heels for Duke Orsino, who is smitten with Countess Olivia, who falls in love with Cesario. If anyone is confused, good! That’s half the fun. Performances go until June 22.
