Ghanaian Composer Okaidja Afroso Plays at Stanford

Ghanaian composer Okaidja Afroso is renowned for evoking a life in tune with water through a wondrously engaging auditory experience. His latest composition, Jaku Mumor, siphons the sounds and emotions of the indigenous fisherman of Ghana’s Atlantic Gulf of Guinea, the Gadangme people, drawing directly from their ancestral rites and rituals of the ocean. Tapping into ancient practices and spirits of the sea as an air of modernity and climate change intersect in music and art, Afroso remains true to his craft, composing stunning works that transcend language.
