‘Othello’ Closes at the Stage

For their adaptation of Shakespeare’s tragic love story Othello, the Stage drops audiences into a 1950s like world of jazz and film-noir. One of the Bard’s most wildly intense, sultry and dark plays, this version sees a cast of eight actors (including the great Aldo Billingslea in the title role) bring to life the tale of cunning Iago, whose manipulation and deceitfulness tears lovers Desdemona and Othello apart. This time, it’s all cloaked in a delightfully engaging cabaret-style, with flourishes of jazz style and hard-nosed noir. This modern(ish) telling of the Shakespearean classic has it all—love, deceit, betrayal and especially murder.
