.DaShawn Hickman in Palo Alto

The timeless sound of DaShawn Hickman’s pedal-steel guitar can take an audience to infinite places in a night. Growing up in Mount Airy, NC, Hickman honed his lap steel skills playing along to his mother’s voice as she sang around the house, doing chores and rehearsing for her roles at the Sunday service at the church next door. Hickman’s debut album, Drums, Roots & Steel, was born out of these childhood experiences. The music takes steel guitar to new heights, merging jazz, gospel, blues and funk with West African drumming. Vintage Guitar describes the result as “heavenly.” Earthwise Productions brings his Sacred Steel show to town this Friday.
