The legend of the Winchester Mystery House has inspired so many things in pop culture, from Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion ride and Stephen King’s Rose Red to the 1993 sci-fi novel Vanishing Point and countless episodes of ghost-hunting shows. This week, a solo play (performed by Lisa Morse and written by Joe Christiano) inspired by the history and the myth rolls through San Jose, where the legends began. Mrs. Winchester, or, A Gun in the First Act premiered in 2023 to a sold-out show and this year has been taking a celebratory debut tour to the delight of audiences who love the macabre.
