Technically, Kneebody plays jazz, but the band’s sound is almost impossible to pin down. It’s moody, textured, and prone to sudden shifts that delight as much as bewilder. Kneebody originated with members Ben Wendel, Shane Endsley, Adam Benjamin and Kaveh Rastegar, who met at the Eastman School of Music in the ’90s. Once Benjamin moved to California, he enlisted bassist and drummer Nate Wood. Since then, the band has been on a tear, releasing several critically acclaimed albums, including 2007’s Low Electrical Worker. Though Rastegar left the band in 2019, Kneebody continues creating some of the most compelling experimental jazz around.
