Award-winning Bay Area resident and vocalist Mahesh Kale is a star in both Indian classical music and playback (Indian film soundtrack) singing. Saxophonist George Brooks is renowned for his synthesis of American jazz and Indian classical forms. This musical summit brings the two together onstage, blending ragas and improvisation, employing both a jazz combo and Indian instruments. Their approach celebrates, emphasizes, and builds upon the commonalities in what are often thought of as very different musical traditions. This exploratory performance is a co-production of the Stanford Jazz Workshop and the Kale-founded Indian Classical Music and Arts Foundation.
