Tehran-born Shahyar Ghanbari is a prolific songwriter, poet, singer and multimedia artist. Ghanbari first found success in the ’60s, writing songs for high-profile Iranian vocalists. Settling in Los Angeles after the Iranian revolution, he continued to collaborate with Persian artists around the globe. His albums featured both music and spoken word, in English, French and Persian. Ghanbari’s work combines his literary sensibility with themes of love, solitude and exile; his music combines traditional Persian textures with ambient soundscapes and avant-garde elements. Ghanbari is an acknowledged master at bringing together the traditional and the experimental. This performance will also feature San Francisco-based Persian flamenco-jazz artist Farzad Arjmand. Ghanbari will also perform on Sunday, Aug 17.
