Wu Chu-chu was born in Hankou (now Wuhan, China) and came of age in Taiwan. A major figure in the latter country’s folk music movement of the 1970s, Wu helped musicians in Taiwan develop their own distinct cultural identity. Founder of the pop music UFO Group, today Wu leads an ensemble dedicated to sharing the music, culture and folk traditions of Taiwan with audiences around the globe. Under the banner of “50 Years of Folk Songs,” this show features veterans of the Taiwanese folk scene and showcases a repertoire that covers 50 years of Taiwanese folk for a three-hour performance. Goes until Wednesday.
