Egyptian American stand-up comedian Ahmed Ahmed tackles Islamophobia head-on, incorporating his Muslim identity brilliantly into his sets. Still, at one strange Florida show in 2019, the comedian lived through a surreal nightmare when an audience member called the police on him for organizing a terrorist plot. The joke that prompted this? Ahmed asked people in the room to clap if they were from the Middle East and said, “All right. We got a handful of us in here, nice. But, hey, it only takes one of us … to tell a joke.”
