Ben Yalom is a legend of Bay Area theatre. He founded and led San Francisco’s groundbreaking foolsFury Theatre, which ran for over 23 years before closing during the COVID-19 pandemic. Yalom is also a psychotherapist and the son of existential psychiatrist and author Irvin D. Yalom. The same global pandemic that shuttered his son’s theatre presented unique challenges for the senior Yalom, who was also struggling with memory loss. In tackling these challenges, Irvin revolutionized the practice of psychotherapy. Ben tells this story in his new book Hour of The Heart, a collaboration with his father.
