Boston-based drummer Charles Haynes comes from a foundation in jazz, but over his decades in music, he has lent his prodigious talent and skill to a staggering array of artists across almost every genre. He’s worked with everyone from Ye, Ed Sheeran and Ruthie Foster to Meshell Ndegeocello and Queen Latifah. Haynes is as comfortable making knotty progressive-art rock as he is within the country and western idiom, playing greasy funk or laying down a thunderous backbeat for hip hop tracks. And Haynes’ drumming is only part of the puzzle: he’s also a sought-after composer and producer.
