Much of Citrus Pit’s music is highly charged, speedy thrash-punk. But there’s an atypically melodic undercurrent to the group’s songs; when they slow it down a bit (as on “What Could Go Wrong,” a standout cut on their playfully titled 2023 album, Self Titled), those values come to the fore. And what a difference a year made. Citrus Pit’s 2022 debut, DEMO, is solid enough, but the group, led by Lennon “Ludacris” Heitkam, improved by leaps and bounds. More impressive still is that all that progress took place while the band members were still in high school (and at least one member still is).
