In the mid-2000s, Empire! Empire (I was a Lonely Estate) took an arguably lifeless emo scene and reinvigorated it. The band produced mournful, compelling, beautiful tunes that were reminiscent of emotional indie rock from the mid-1990s yet refreshing in their composition and candor. Despite several releases and a legion of good reviews, Empire! Empire! called it quits in 2016. Less than a decade later, however, these emo indie darlings are back for a long-awaited reunion tour. Empire! Empire! is playing a handful of shows across the country, with Open San Jose being the antepenultimate stop. Supporting Empire! Empire! will be singer Emperor X, and hometown heroes Pacing and Polka Dot.
