Combining hip hop, jazz fusion, multimedia presentation, poetry, rap and storytelling, Jonathan Francisco Borca leads the Francis Experience Quintet (guitarist Mark Arroyo, drummer and co-founder Gabby Horlick, bassist Miguel “Frunkyman” Leyva and pianist Bennett Roth), making music designed for healing. The group gained notice for its “Hip Hop(e), Jazz & Storytelling” series at the San Jose Museum of Art. Also on the bill is Japantown “power duo” MindFi (Kia Day and the Quintet’s Arroyo, doing double duty this night), who describe their music as “Wi-Fi for your mind,” and stand-up poet Mighty Mike McGee.
