As part of the Black Cab Jazz series co-presented by Hammer Theatre Center and San Jose State University, jazz pianist Helen Sung comes to downtown with a program of compositions by herself and landmark women composers including Geri Allen, Mary Lou Williams, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Carla Bley and Marian McPartland. Joined by an all-star quartet and a special guest vocalist, Sung’s acclaimed fluency, spontaneity and inspirational playing are set to impress—her latest album Quartet+ has been listed among the “Best of 2021 Albums” by DownBeat.
