I see you every day. You’re the people with shopping carts in the aisle at Safeway who stand behind someone who doesn’t know you’re there and roll your eyes at their ignorance when they let you pass. You complain about the gross dude who comes into your work and hits on you in front of his friends, the person using the illegal bat at the softball game, and the Trekkies making out in front of your kids. If you never say anything to these offensive people, you’re part of the problem, because humans sometimes need to be humiliated for them to realize they’re acting the fool. If you bite your tongue until you’re safely behind your monitor writing to complain about these people, you need to grow a pair and complain to their faces. Ask someone to move if you need to get by them, tell that guy he doesn’t have a chance with you (in front of his friends), and call out those Trekkies, like your kids did.
