You’re a manager at the small restaurant where I wait tables. We have a name for you. It’s Doctor No. Why? Because you don’t do much in the way of listening, and almost always reflexively answer “no” to whatever question is asked of you. We’ve come to make a game of it, asking you the opposite of what we want. “May I stay my whole shift?” when we want off early is a favorite. You’ve said “no” to this three times this month and didn’t notice because we worked our whole shifts anyways, as we intended. Maybe you should notice that you have a dedicated, hard-working staff, instead of always assuming the worst of us. We’re not lying, stealing or lazy, but we are as sick of you as you are burnt out and negative. Do us and yourself a favor and change jobs.
SEND US your anonymous rants and raves about your co-workers or any badly behaving citizen—or about citizens you admire. I SAW YOU, Metro, 550 S. First St., San Jose, 95113, or via email to Is*****@*******ws.com.
