Singer-songwriter Karina Denike first came to fame fronting the 1990s Bay Area ska band Dance Hall Crashers. That band’s horn-focused approach made significant inroads during ska’s third wave. After the end of Dance Hall Crashers, Denike continued on her own, expanding her musical vision to take in cabaret, jazz and swing textures, all delivered with a bracing does of theatricality. Now leading The Cottontails, Denike focuses on Roaring ’20s jazz, World War II-era swing and R&B from the 1950s. The band’s concert itineraries have taken them as far afield as the UK, Europe and Japan.
