Stage Courage Drama Hero
Kudos to Gunderson’s drama director, Trish Buttrill, and her staff, and the student actors, for having the courage to stage the controversial play The Laramie Project in a conservative, family-oriented community like San Jose (“Play Fight,” SVNews, March 2). They deserve the support of our community.

Long Lives
My name is Mark Scavuzzo, and I play drums for the band Longliner. We would like to thank everyone at Metro for the fabulous write-up (Concert, March 2). The San Jose original music scene lives!

Vacancy Rating
The fact that the city has let the old City Hall sit vacant for five years is a disgrace (“Elephant in the Room,” Letters, March 9). I’m sure that the city could vacate some leased office space if they’d only fix up the old building. Either that or sell it to the county so the county could exit some leased space. I know for a fact that the county is spread all over the place.

Disco Details
I was glad to read your mostly well-done review of the Xanadu at the Retro Dome (Stage, March 9). But it said that Olivia Newton-John’s song “Strange Magic” was not in the movie. That song was not hers; it was an Electric Light Orchestra song. Your writer Sean Conwell seems to have gotten it confused with the very different sounding, though similarly titled song “Magic,” an Olivia song that was actually featured prominently in the movie.
