Lupita Infante Leads All-Woman Mariachi Band at Stanford

In a tradition historically dominated by men, Pedro Infante’s granddaughter Lupita Infante is championing an initiative to empower rancheras like her with an all-woman mariachi band. Mariachi music is elegant, heart-rending and full of passion—Infante is a graceful tour de force in the regional genre, reinventing the traditional sound for a new generation while still maintaining its roots and paying homage to her family’s legacy. Fans can expect to hear hits like the stirring “Serenata” and the lively, lovelorn “Hazme Tuda” when Infante and the band take the stage at Bing Concert Hall this Sunday.
