.Masquerade in San Jose

Symphony San Jose audiences will have two chances to don their masks and be treated to classical music meant for celebration, excitement, and fantasy. The program starts with Anna Clyne’s “Masquerade,” a piece full of drama and crescendo. Next up, San Jose’s own superstar pianist Jon Nakamatsu performs Rachmaninoff’s “Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini,” for piano and orchestra. The orchestra will finish out the evening with Berlioz’s “Symphonie Fantastique,” the composer’s most famous work, inspired by his unrequited love and resulting mania. This piece of music succeeded in winning the affection of Shakespearean actress Harriet Smithson, who became his wife. It continues to capture listeners’ hearts. Goes until 10/5.
