Good news jazz fans: Grammy-nominated pianist Orrin Evans is coming to the Hammer Theatre this week for San Jose Jazz Winter Fest. A fiercely independent musician, Evans is famous for his solo work as well as his leadership in the Captain Black Big Band (and their hit albums like The Intangible Between and Presence). Evans got his start as a sideman for artists like Bobby Watson and Branford Marsalis, also working with Ralph Peterson, Duane Eubanks and Lenora Zenzalai Helm before he released his debut as a leader. A living legend on his instrument.
