A modern-day hero of folk, roots and Americana music, Rhiannon Giddens came to fame as a member of the critically lauded (and Grammy Award-winning) Carolina Chocolate Drops. Her music draws from an array of American musical traditions, including gospel, country, blues and old-time, but Giddens’ warmly expansive musical worldview is also informed by Celtic and other styles, as well as by contemporary music. A busy artist—Pulitzer Prize winner, MacArthur “genius” grant recipient, frequent musical collaborator—Giddens has released eight albums under her own name. 2025’s What did the Blackbird Say to the Crow? is her latest.
