Though she came to fame in the shadow of some of music’s highest-profile artists, Sheila E. has long since made her mark as a groundbreaking creative force all her own. Daughter of percussionist Pete Escovedo (and niece of Coke, Javier and Alejandro Escovedo), the Oakland Native got her first big break as percussionist for George Duke, and later with Prince. A Latin Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award winner, Shiela E. has worked closely with Herbie Hancock, Lionel Richie, and Ringo Starr. Her ’80s blockbuster debut, The Glamorous Life, has been followed up with eight more albums. 2024’s Bailar is her latest.
