Beatdown hardcore band Sunami are just too much—too loud, too violent, too hardcore—so it’s not surprising to find out they started as a joke meant to parody the over-the-top extremes of the SF Bay Area scene, with their original intent being to play only three gigs, a premiere, a break-up show and a reunion. When a video of them playing their first gig before an intense mosh pit at a tiny, overfull house show went viral, they immediately started receiving invitations to play shows and festivals with the same bands they were affectionately ridiculing.
