High concept tribute bands are nothing new. It was nearly four decades ago that Dread Zeppelin first appeared, combining reggae beats, an Elvis impersonator, and the music of Led Zeppelin. As unlikely as it might have seemed, Dread Zeppelin scored a deal with IRS Records, releasing three albums. Post-IRS, they’d go on to record and release a dozen more. So the appearance of a band paying tribute to musical metallurgists System of a Down shouldn’t raise eyebrows. What might, though, is the fact that System of a Clown wear facepaint and masks while they do it. El Guapo opens.
