In The Shadow, people’s silhouettes take on a life of their own, breaking from their form to become a separate, distinct entity. Based on Hans Christian Andersen’s cautionary fairy tale, The Shadow, the production uses playwright Evgeny Shvarts’ 1940 adaptation to bring the story to life. Shvarts kept the story’s main conceit but added new plot lines and characters. This results in a funny but eerie exploration of a person’s darker side, how that side can adopt a distinct personality, and what happens when someone fails to make peace with the darkness inherent in their being. The play is in Russian. Performances on Saturday and Sunday.
