Unlike many hardcore/powerviolence bands, Martinez-based duo Throat Rip composes songs over two minutes long that are absolutely jammed packed with nervous system shorting riffs and equally brutal vocals. In fact, Throat Rip’s sheer brutality betrays their nimble makeup—just a vocalist/drummer and a guitarist/bassist—because their sound seems like it was catapulted straight from hell. Throat Rip will be performing at the glorious Orifice in San Jose this week with fellow powerviolence bands, the LA-based group DYSML, Slammed Back and Bay Area locals Happy Society.
