Are they rock? Are they funk? Are they jazz? Whatever they are, it’s clear Umphrey’s McGee defies all genres. That’s probably why this band draws an audience of hippies, rockers and “normies” with their collective jams and meticulous playing, combining the most unlikely of genres like electronic and metal with folk and soul. Which makes sense seeing as they’ve been around for nearly three decades, having played literally thousands of shows. Much like their other jam band contemporaries, Umphrey’s McGee is more than just a band, but a collective of artists and fans connecting in music venues to create a symbiotic revolution of music and love.
