A Stanford PhD student by day and singer-songwriter by night, Uwade has toured with indie and R&B bands like The Strokes, Jamila Woods, and Sylvan Esso. “My day usually starts off in a pretty relaxed way,” she shares with Stanford Live. “I usually go to mass, or do a bit of prayer.” From there, she fills her day discussing ancient texts and assisting in the classics department. Her songs draw emotional depth and intellectual curiosity from her studies, her Nigerian heritage, and influences like Fela Kuti and Yebba. For this show, she performs selections from her debut album Florilegium.
