Jazz comes in many forms and many voices, and the SJZ Collective is much the same. Composed of some of the Bay Area’s most prominent jazz musicians, the Collective works together to reimagine material from catalogs of jazz heavyweights, focusing on the late Roy Hargrove this Friday. Created by drummer/composer Wally Schanelle, the group features many of San Jose Jazz’s resident educators. This week, the collective back renowned Ukrainian trumpeter Yakiv Tsvietinskyi as part of San Jose Jazz Winterfest’s Counterpoint With Ukraine.
