Any rock nerd can form a cover band, but how many tribute vehicles are fronted by an actual guitar hero? As Zakk Sabbath, Black Label Society main man and on-again-off-again Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Zakk Wylde does an inspired take on Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi’s classic riffs. Wylde, a multi-tasking savant, also does spot-on Ozzy vocals. It might be meta for a sideman to cover his boss’ old band, but their deep history together is what makes Zakk Sabbath’s take on Sabbath originals so convincing (check out Live in Detroit). Plus, he is way more animated than Ozzy, what with his hair-whipping, amp-straddling, bicep-bulging Zakk-ness.
