420 in the Park Brings Reggae, Hip-Hop and Cannabis Culture to Downtown San Jose

420 in the Park, a collaboration between Metro’s Music in the Park affiliate and the family-owned Purple Lotus dispensary, brings cannabis culture and live music to downtown San Jose for a two-day takeover.

The event lights up the park, located on Market Street between San Carlos and San Fernando Streets, on Saturday April 18 and Sunday April 19. 

Reggae leads Saturday, with five bands and two DJs, headlined by surviving Bob Marley collaborator Julian Junior Marvin and the Legendary Wailers. 

Hip-hop and R&B takes Sunday, with a 420 expo, food, drinks and a cross-section of the Bay Area’s music and cannabis communities, including eight live acts and two DJs.


420 in the Park: Music Schedule

Saturday, April 18

2:30pm: JR Rankin & The Irieize — San Jose native Juan Ramos brings the reggae sound to the stage.

3:30pm: Bayonics — Mission District mainstays blend reggae and Latin grooves into a hybrid sound.

4:45pm: Ancestree — Santa Cruz roots reggae band pairs deep bass and horns with conscious, politically aware lyrics.

6pm: Hijinx — Santa Cruz crew fuses reggae, ska and punk into a high-energy sound.

7:30pm: The Legendary Wailers — Bob Marley collaborator Julian “Junior” Marvin delivers classic roots reggae and all the hits.

DJs are King I-Vier, an award-winning Bay Area reggae veteran and Robert Rankin’, a mainstay of the local dub and reggae scene.

Sunday, April 19


2:15pm: Yonex Jones — San Jose rapper and producer channels hyphy-era energy into a hometown-driven set.

2:45pm: Big Myke — ESSJ rapper Michael Salanoa brings gritty storytelling and independent hustle.

3:25pm: Amp Melo — Santa Cruz artist blends funk and hip-hop into a groove-heavy set.

4:15pm: Las Rakas — Grammy-nominated Panamanian-American Oakland duo mixes bilingual hip-hop with reggaeton, reggae and dancehall.

5:10pm: CRSB — Bay Area cousins Chris Ramos and Sonny B blend R&B, hip-hop, reggae and ukulele into a smooth sound.

6:05pm: RBL Posse — Bay Area rap pioneers bring classic West Coast mobb sound and legacy hits.

7pm: Luniz — Yukmouth and Numskull are the duo behind “I Got 5 on It” and deliver classic West Coast hip-hop.

8pm: Baby Bash — Chart-topping rapper delivers radio hits and smooth, Latin-tinged hip-hop.

DJs spinning are DJ Gutta Butta and DJ Teo.


Afterparties

Saturday

Rookies (S. 1st & San Fernando), 8pm — Full patio takeover with Spliff Skankin and guest selectors, plus full bar and drink specials.

Sunday

Fuze (58 S. 1st St), 21+ — DJ J Espinosa, DJ Vex One and DJ Sonz keep the energy high with club sets that will keep the party going.
