Hydrofeminism proposes that nothing exists in isolation. No body is ever pure. If humans are inseparable from rivers, oceans, and aquifers, then our conditions—damaged or replenished—are shared. In a small ocean swallowed, six international artists engage with the material, sociopolitical, and cultural histories of specific bodies of water. They grieve the lives lost to human interventions into earth’s waterways and also honor human paths of resistance and healing. Presented in conjunction with SJMA’s Sowing Sustainability Initiative, this exhibition uses performance, sound, sculpture, and visual art to explore water as the connective force linking all bodies and ecosystems. Goes until February next year.
