Written by San Jose playwright Maribel Martinez and produced by Teatro Vision, Becoming (MAR) is a new play about self-acceptance and identity. After a disastrous talent show performance, 9-year old Mariela is unexpectedly whisked to the InBetween, a dreamlike place where animals and ancestors hold mysterious power. There, aided by spirits older and wiser than she, Mariela must confront her own self and truly become the person she’s meant to be. A powerful, bilingual production rooted in the local community, Becoming (MAR) offers a unique theater experience this week.
