Jazz pianist, composer, and educator Carmen Staaf is acclaimed for her lyricism and improvisational skills. Trained at the New England Conservatory and Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz, Staaf has a deep background in classical and jazz. She builds upon that foundation, incorporating contemporary textures into her work. While she has performed with giants like Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter, Staaf is equally at home leading her own band. Her latest release is 2025’s Sounding Line. Guests on that recording feature in her live performances, in which she presents duos, trios and quartets tackling the works of Monk alongside her original compositions.
