Henry James’s 1898 Gothic horror novella, The Turn of the Screw, follows a young governess who’s sent to an English country house to take care of two wealthy orphans whom she’s convinced are possessed by the spirits of the estate’s former governess and valet. The short story has been abundantly adapted, the most recent being Netflix’s The Haunting of Bly Manor. It also inspired Benjamin Britten’s 1954 opera, which the SJSU School of Music Opera presents. The production, conducted by Fred Cohen and directed by Luis Orozco, features Rachel Nelson, Francielle De Barros, Rebekah Burns, Luis Tuyub, Lou Sullivan, Zoe Blankenship, Victoria McDowell and Alex Delgado.
