.Day Jobs at Stanford

To many people, day jobs are the antithesis of art. Yet, the reality is that many artists can never quit their jobs to pursue their craft full-time. Cantor Arts Center’s latest exhibit, Day Jobs, approaches this topic differently. Rather than seeing jobs as a hindrance to art, it explores how artists have found inspiration in their jobs. The exhibition even has a companion catalog containing interviews and essays with 24 artists who explain how their work to make money fuels their art. The entire project also demystifies the artistic process. One doesn’t need to be locked up in their studio, separate from the world, to create meaningful art. (AC)
