For a band called Emergency Broadcast System, they sure are poppy. Not that it’s a bad thing. Upon first listening they sound like a cross between early Beatles or the Oneders from That Thing You Do run through a ’90s college rock filter. Their latest album, Zoinks!, was released on Valentine’s Day and is 22 minutes via seven songs of harmonies, head-nodding rhythms and an attitude that the world may suck, but they’re still gonna find their happiness come hell or high water. This Friday they join California Standard, Neon Ships and Arcade 9 to celebrate the dirty 30 birthday of bassist, Lilla Katalin, who performs triple duty in EBS, Neon Ships and Arcade 9.
